Kharis Haven - H.E.R. Haven is a maternal health organization in Ghana focused on providing holistic care to women before, during, and after childbirth. Our services include health support, educational workshops, and restoration for women who have experienced childbirth complications. We provide access to safe, comfortable Mother Homes where women can receive care and support, ensuring a healthy and empowering childbirth experience.

H.E.R. stands for Health, Education, and Restoration. These are the three core pillars that guide all of our programs and services at Kharis Haven. We focus on ensuring women’s health during childbirth, providing educational resources to empower mothers, and offering restorative care for women recovering from childbirth trauma.

Kharis Haven primarily serves women who meet our eligibility criteria, including those who have limited access to healthcare due to distance, financial challenges, or other socio-economic barriers. We aim to support women who are in need of a safe, nurturing environment during their pregnancy and postpartum period.

To ensure that our services reach those most in need, we have the following criteria:
  • Women who live far from healthcare facilities or face difficulty accessing maternal care.
  • Women who may struggle financially despite assistance from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
  • Women within a specific age range (to be determined by our team based on risk factors).
  • We do not admit women with multiple birth pregnancies due to potential risks and complications. We conduct an income and expenditure assessment as part of our screening process.

Women can be referred to Kharis Haven by healthcare professionals or can self-refer. If you are interested in staying at a Mother Home, you will need to ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria. Contact us through our website or have your healthcare provider get in touch with us to begin the referral process.

At Kharis Haven, we offer a wide range of services, including:
  • Pregnancy exercises and breathing techniques.
  • Parenting, breastfeeding, and hygiene classes.
  • Family planning workshops.
  • Mental and emotional health support.
  • Mentorship and business skills workshops (optional for mothers who wish to participate). These services are designed to help mothers stay healthy, informed, and empowered during their stay.

Mothers can stay in a Mother Home from two weeks before their due date until two weeks after delivery, allowing them to ensure a safe childbirth and begin their postpartum recovery in a supportive environment. The length of stay may be extended in certain cases, depending on the mother’s needs and availability at the home.

Each mother receives a toiletries package upon arrival to help with her basic needs during her stay. Upon departure, we provide a care package for both mother and baby that includes breastfeeding support materials, diet tips, baby essentials like clothes and diapers, and resources to help with postnatal care.

Yes! Mothers are encouraged to participate in various workshops and training programs. These include parenting classes, mental health support, and mentorship programs. For those who are interested, we also offer business and social skills workshops during their stay or six weeks postpartum, empowering them with the tools to achieve financial independence.

We welcome volunteers and donations to support our cause! If you are interested in volunteering, whether as a healthcare professional, workshop facilitator, or support staff, please visit our Volunteer page to learn more. We also accept donations to help us provide care packages, fund our Mother Homes, and expand our services. You can contribute directly through our Donate page.

Yes, we believe in the power of partnerships to extend our impact. We work with local hospitals to provide medical support when needed and collaborate with other charities and businesses to offer services like training, clothing, and care products for mothers and babies. If your organization is interested in partnering with us, please contact us through our Partners page.

Kharis Haven provides restorative care for women who have experienced complications during childbirth, such as fistulas. We partner with external agencies to offer treatment plans and surgeries, helping these women recover physically and emotionally, and restoring their hope for the future.

Looking ahead, Kharis Haven plans to expand our network of Mother Homes, train more healthcare professionals, and shift the ideology of what a good birthing experience should look like. We also aim to offer fistula surgeries, vaginal reconstructive surgeries, and partner with the government to implement compassionate birthing classes for women across the country.
